Kashmiri Hip Hop artist Ahmer presents the music video for Elaan, the fourth track and first single from his debut “Little Kid, Big Dreams” album, in collaboration with Prabh Deep and producer Sez on the Beat.
About the Video:
Charged with loaded imagery of a jail or a detention center, the video for Elaan complements the bars that constitute the verses by Ahmer and senior associate Prabh Deep, both artists represented by Delhi-based Azadi Records. The aesthetic of the video falls in line with a larger history of hip hop music videos that offer social and political critique and commentary worldwide. In that manner, the song along with the video form part of a larger catalogue that maintains and revitalizes the tradition of resistance, interrogation and critique; all pillars of hip hop as a contemporary art form.
The artist states the following about the song versed in five different languages (Urdu, Hindi, English, Punjabi, Kashmiri):
This song is about everything I have seen around me while growing up. The song calls out people who are hypocritical because they do terrible things behind the curtain, but judge others for doing the same just to be accepted by society. It is about how people in power use religion to manipulate the masses. Prabh Deep’s verse is about how he is against people who are dividing the country on the basis of religion, caste and other socio-political factors.
